Party of the European Left (EL) Square de Meeûs, 25 Brussels Alliance of European organisations running the ECI “Stop TTIP and CETA”
Dear comrades, dear friends, The self-organised European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Stop TTIP and CETA” exceeded 3 million signatures in just one year. The Party of the European Left, member of the alliance “STOP TTIP”, congratulates this initiative and success. Despite the rejection of the ECI against the TTIP by the European Commission, more than one year ago, the alliance “STOP TTIP” has not given up. With this self-organised ECI, it has been shown that European citizens like to express their strong mobilization against these two Transatlantic Treaties. Henceforth, the European institutions cannot and should no longer remain deaf to the call of citizens. The TTIP and CETA are negotiated in secret, with no transparency, even for the MEPs, who do not have access to any information. More free competition and liberalization of services, privatization of public services, reductions of European social standards, arbitrary courts … These treaties will cause significant impact on the quality of life of the European peoples, while neither them or their representatives was consulted. These treaties are decided against the peoples. Together, we must continue to score points against the signature and ratification of these treaties. The week of mobilization against TTIP and CETA from 10th to 17th October in Brussels is the next step to make our voices and arguments against both treaties heard. The Party of the European Left will largely participate in this week of initiatives, as well as in the demonstration on October 17, 2015. With best regards,
